Ingredients

9-12 lasagna noodles

1Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil

1 onion, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 habanero pepper, diced

1lb. ground beef

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

2 Tbsp. tomato paste

1tsp. dried oregano

1tsp. dried basil

1 bay leaf

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 cup ricotta cheese

½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated

2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded

Recipe Steps

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F.

Step 2

Cook the lasagna noodles according to the instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

Heat the olive oil over medium heat in a large saucepan. Add the onion, garlic, habanero, and sauté for 2-3 minutes or until softened.

Step 4

Add the ground beef to the saucepan, and cook for 5-7 minutes or until browned. Drain any excess fat.

Step 5

Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, bay leaf, salt, and pepper to the saucepan. Bring to a simmer and stir occasionally for 15-20 minutes.

Step 6

Mix the ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, and a pinch of salt and pepper in a separate bowl.

Step 7

In a 9x13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom. Then, place a layer of lasagna noodles on the meat sauce.

Step 8

Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of the meat sauce and mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers with the remaining noodles, ricotta cheese mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella cheese.

Step 9

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the oven for 25 minutes.

Step 10

Remove the foil and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are lightly golden.

Step 11

Let the lasagna cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
