Ingredients


2⅓ cups gluten-free flour

1⅓ cups powdered sugar

2 tsp. baking powder

1⅓ cups milk powder

1 large egg, whisked

2 Tbsp. butter, melted

1 cup water

Vegetable oil, for frying

Recipe Steps


Step 1

Whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder, and milk powder in a large mixing bowl.

Step 2

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients, then pour in the egg, butter, and water. Mix everything together until a soft, smooth, and sticky dough forms.

Step 3

Cover the dough in the mixing bowl with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rest for 10 minutes.

Step 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot over medium heat. Make sure there's enough oil to fully immerse the buns.

Note:  

3-4 inches of oil in the pan should be sufficient.

Step 5

Once the oil is hot enough (around 326°F), carefully drop a few buns into the oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

Remember: 

A quick-release ice cream scoop can make the dough transfer into the oil much easier and safer. The preferred measurement used at the Brimly Test Kitchen is half of a regular scoop which yields about 18 buns. However, the yield amount may vary depending on the size of portions you make.

Step 6

Use a wire strainer or tongs to remove the fried buns from the oil and transfer them onto a cooling rack to drain off any excess oil.

Step 7

Repeat the frying process with the remaining dough until all the buns are cooked.

Step 8

Serve the Deep Fried Buns warm and enjoy them as a delightful snack or breakfast treat!

Remember:

These deep fried gluten-free buns are best enjoyed on the same day they are made. You can store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
