I first discovered this recipe when I was in college and living in a tiny apartment with a gluten-intolerant roommate. We were both broke and relied heavily on pasta as a cheap and easy meal. However, finding gluten-free pasta took a lot of work, and we often had to settle for bland and unsatisfying alternatives. That is until we stumbled upon this recipe. It quickly became our go-to dish, and we would make it at least once a week. We even started hosting dinner parties and would proudly serve our gluten-free masterpiece to our friends. It's been years since college, but Gluten-Free Sausage Pasta still holds a special place in my heart (and stomach). So, whether you're gluten-free or not, I guarantee you'll fall in love with this creamy and flavorful pasta dish. And who knows, it may become your go-to meal too! So, without further ado, let's get cooking and dive into the deliciousness of Gluten-Free Sausage Pasta!

Ingredients

1lb. gluten-free penne pasta

1lb. Italian sausage

1Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil

1 onion, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

½ tsp. dried oregano

½ tsp. dried basil

¼ tsp. red pepper flakes

1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes

½ cup chicken broth

½ cup heavy cream

Salt and pepper, to taste

Recipe Steps

Step 1

Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 2

Pre heat at oven at 400 F. Add sausages to a pan that has been drizzled with olive oil, then add to oven. After the first 15 minutes flip the sausages. Allow to cook for an additional 15 minutes before taking it out. When cooled, slice the sausages into cubes or your desired shape.

Step 3

Heat the olive oil over medium heat in a large skillet. Then, add onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes.

Step 4

Add the dried oregano, dried basil, and red pepper flakes to the skillet and stir to combine with the onion and garlic.

Step 5

Pour the can of diced tomatoes and chicken broth and bring to a simmer. Let the sauce cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it has thickened and reduced slightly.

Step 6

Stir in the heavy cream and cooked sausage and continue to cook for 5 minutes, until the sauce has thickened and the sausage is heated.

Step 7

Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 8

Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and stir to coat.

Step 9

Serve the pasta hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired. Enjoy your delicious and creamy sausage pasta!
