Why is it called two-part French toast? Well, at the Brimly Test Kitchen, we named it that because it literally comes together with just two staple ingredients you probably have at home: bread (gluten-free) and eggs. That's it!
Typically, making French toast can feel daunting and super discouraging because of the long list of ingredients needed for a tasty breakfast that aren't always readily available. By the time you gather everything and finally get that French toast on your plate, you might as well settle for a humble bowl of cereal. So, we decided to simplify the traditional French toast recipe by sticking to the two core essentials everyone has in their pantry. Voilà—the result was just right! Ingredients
4 large eggs
4 bread slices. gluten-free
¼ tsp kosher salt, optional
powdered sugar, optional
maple syrup, optional
1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
Recipe Steps
Step 1
Crack eggs into a bowl. Add salt if desired and whisk until well combined.
Step 2
Place bread slices in a shallow plate or tray. Then, pour whisked eggs over the bread, ensuring both sides are evenly coated.
Step 3
Coat a non-stick skillet or griddle with vegetable oil and place over medium heat until heated.
Step 4
Place the egg-dipped bread slices onto the skillet.
Step 5
Cook the bread slices until golden brown on one side for about 1-2 minutes, then flip and cook the other side until golden brown and the bread is cooked through.
Step 6
Place the cooked French toast on a plate. Lightly sprinkle with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup to your liking.
